Tuscaloosa may be only the fifth biggest city in Alabama, but don’t let it’s size fool you. As the home of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa serves as the center of activity for the industry, healthcare, commerce, and education in the western section of the state.

In ’70, Tuscaloosa formed Lake Tuscaloosa by damming up part of the North River. This created a new 5,855 acre reservoir that replaced the existing two reservoirs as the primary source to meet the water demands of the region.

The lake is larger than both of the previous reservoirs, Lake Nicol and Harris Lake. Lake Nicol is now used as a dedicated backup water supply while Harris Lake is dedicated for industrial use. Lake Tuscaloosa’s water is treated for human consumption.

Since the completion of the reservoir, Lake Tuscaloosa has become a recreational haven for activities such as boating, fishing, water skiing, jet skiing and swimming. With all this booming recreational activity came the desire for residents to build lakefront homes.

Lake Tuscaloosa has 177 miles of beautiful shoreline. The lake drains into the Black Warrior River basin. This spot is famous for fishing the abundant population of Alabama spotted bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, and white crappie.
